A LORRY driver was arrested by police for being twice the drink drive limit.
Officers from Weymouth assisted police from West Dorset with the incident on the A35 near Bridport which saw the lorry pulled over ‘due to the manner of driving’.
The driver was given a roadside breath test which failed on the night of April 20/21 and was subsequently arrested.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “Officers assisted their West Dorset Purple Squad colleagues who had stopped a lorry on the A35 near Bridport due to the manner of driving.
“Shockingly the driver of the lorry failed a roadside breath test so was arrested.
“One of the Weymouth team was able to drive the lorry to a safe parking place thanks to having the correct entitlements on his license which he gained in a previous career.
“The lorry driver was twice over the drink drive limit. Thankfully his actions didn’t result in a serious fatal accident.
“He remains in custody and will be bailed to attend court at a later date.”
