A new development to build dozens of new properties is being proposed to include a mix of tenures which will include affordable homes.
Housing provider Abri has secured the land to the north and west of Cockroad Lane in Beaminster and will be applying for detailed planning permission to develop 58 homes on the site.
The outline permission for the land - which was sought by Gladman Developments Ltd, a strategic land promoter - was approved in 2020
The approved outline planning permission sought for up to 58 residential dwellings, including 35 per cent affordable housing, an amenity area for recreational use, planting, landscaping, informal public open space, children’s play area and sustainable drainage system, including demolition of agricultural structures.
Louise Lote, senior land and new business manager at Abri, said: “The proposals provide a mix of houses to support the community and bring more affordable homes to the area. With this land led scheme we’re making a proportion of the homes for open market sale which means we can reinvest any profits back into the business to build more affordable homes.
“Abri is committed to help provide more opportunities for home ownership with a target of building at least 1,500 new homes a year by 2030. Working with our partners and Dorset Council we hope these new homes will add to the community and provide more local employment opportunities.”
Once detailed planning permission is granted, Abri hopes to work with local Dorset company Acheson Construction to help build the homes.
Clare Goodchild, senior land director at Gladman said: “Gladman have really enjoyed working with Abri on this project and we look forward to seeing the site being developed.”
Abri is also helping to provide another 35 affordable homes at an adjacent site with Cavanna Homes.
The housing provider said the proposed homes in Beaminster are part of the company's commitment to provide more homes in Dorset with current developments including 21 affordable homes in Hazelbury Bryan.
Another 15 affordable homes are also under construction in Drimpton, with Abri working with Broadwindsor Group Parish Community Land Trust to develop homes specifically for people with a local connection.
