POLICE in Dorset are advising people to follow six simple steps in a bid to ensure their homes are more secure.
Dorset Police recommend not leaving keys to a property in a visible location or one that can be accessed easily through a letterbox.
They urge to ask someone you trust to watch your house if you’re away, ensure hidden keys are bolted, decide on a safe place for emergencies and lock windows and docks when you’re out and about.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Following our advice on home security will help you keep your most valued possessions safe and secure.
“Keep your valuables out of sight, including your car keys.
