A MAN has been banned from driving and ordered to pay more than £250 for travelling at 36mph in a 30mph zone.

Colin Bruce was behind the wheel of his Peugeot Panel van driving along the A35 Trunk Road through Chideock, when he was clocked travelling at 36mph by a speed camera on December 27 2020, Weymouth Magistrates Court heard.

The speed limit for the stretch of road is 30mph.

On October 26 last year Bruce, of Blair Avenue, Hurlford, East Ayrshire, Scotland admitted exceeding a 30mph speed limit in contravention of an automatic camera device.

The reason for the delay in the case coming before magistrates was due to an adjournment of the case to rearrange a date for a full summons to allow the option to disqualify Bruce from driving.

At a sentencing hearing this week, he was fined £133, told to pay a surcharge of £34, and court costs of £110.

Bruce was also disqualified from driving for six months.

The defendant's guilty plea taken into account when imposing sentence.
