Jazz comes to west Dorset this weekend with an eagerly-anticipated concert that should delight music buffs.
BBC Radio 3’s Alyn Shipton and his band will play traditional New Orleans jazz in a concert being staged at Powerstock church (St Mary the Virgin) on Saturday, February 19 – getting under way at 7.30pm.
Alyn is a jazz bassist, author and broadcaster, being the presenter of the hugely popular Jazz Record Requests programme for BBC Radio 3.
Alyn Shipton’s New Orleans Jazz Friends is made up of musicians who have all spent time in New Orleans learning from the founding fathers of the music, and in these concerts they re-explore the repertoire that leading clarinettist George Lewis made famous.
Tickets for the concert cost £10 and can be obtained by calling 01308 485457.
