FLOOD warnings have been put in place in Weymouth and on Portland, where the Environment Agency says flooding is expected.
A flood alert is also in place for the west coast of Dorset where flooding is possible from Chiswell on Portland all the way along to Lyme Regis.
The warnings come in light of Storm Eunice which is expected to bring gale-force winds, large waves and spray overtopping the Dorset coast early Friday and into Saturday.
The Environment Agency says that a tidal surge will increase the water levels around high water and overtopping the sea defences is possible.
The government agency said they ‘expect flooding at the Sea Life Centre and the Preston Beach Road area of Lodmoor’ in Weymouth and are closely monitoring the situation.
For Portland Harbour at Ferry Bridge they are also 'expecting' flooding with warning signs implemented at Wyke Regis and Portland.
The flood alert for the west coast of Dorset puts ‘all coastal locations between Lyme Regis and Chiswell’ most at risk where flooding is 'possible'.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “Stay away from Dorset beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated as the situation changes.”
