The youth centre has been given a boost after a local firm made a generous donation.
All the staff and volunteers at Bridport Youth and Community Centre have been given uniform t-shirts and IDs from AJ Supplies.
Ryan Sweetman of AJ Supplies said: “The reason we chose to donate to the youth centre is not only do we have two AJ Supplies' members represent the youth club, but we feel the youth centre is an excellent cause and is just what's needed for the youth of the town. We also appreciate youth club's custom with a long-standing relationship, and we felt it was only correct to donate.”
The donation comes after a busy period for the centre which ran two sessions at Christmas with many activities including action van, recycling workshops and messy art by Oops Wow and most importantly, generous sit-down lunches. This was funded by Dorset Council for the children who would be missing the free school dinners, so the centre did not have to charge those children attending. It was also open to young people not on free school meals who paid a nominal charge to join in.
The fun sessions were well attended - 60 children came to the one before Christmas and the one held just after Christmas had 40.
Sarah Crabb from Dorset Council was very pleased with the events.
She said it was just what they had hoped for and was delighted the children enjoyed an “amazing full Christmas roast” which was cooked by one of the trustees who then made a buffet spread for the post-Christmas meal.
Chairman of the youth centre Kelvin Clayton said: “I would like to thank Dorset Council for allowing us to provide these wonderful holiday activities.
"I would also like to thank AJ Supplies for their ongoing support with our youth work provision. It’s public-spirited businesses like them that make Bridport what it is.”
The centre has started a new Friday Juniors which is going well, growing in numbers in attendance and now total membership for the three clubs is 270.
The seniors attendance has grown dramatically, and there are now up to 80 young people at each session. The centre has had great success with their themed nights on a variety of topics including recycling workshops and The Bank of Dreams and Nightmare with Peter Margerum which encourages imaginative creative responses.
