DORSET cricketing maestro Paul Tweddle has been appointed to England’s coaching staff for the upcoming international Twenty20 series in the West Indies.

England are due to play five matches in the Caribbean from Saturday, January 22 and will be led by head coach and former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood.

Tweddle played for Dorchester and Bridport before earning elite coaching badges and joining Somerset, with whom he is currently on the coaching staff.

He will put England’s wicketkeepers and fielders through their paces in the West Indies following an open recruitment and interview process.

Speaking to Somerset County Cricket Club’s official website, Tweddle said: “I’m very excited and it’s a great group to be involved with and to learn from. Hopefully, I’ll be able to add some value as well.

“Opportunities like this are all about learning from the environment. It’s about seeing how the players and staff go about things at international level and building on those standards.

“International cricket and everything that goes with it is an intense environment and it will be interesting to see what it’s like.

“You bring back a huge amount from experiences like this. You gain a vast amount of knowledge about how things are done at the highest level.

“It gives you ideas on how to improve but it also reaffirms the things that you are already doing well at domestic level.

“It’s not just about what we can learn, it’s also about what we can add to the environment.”
