A historic hotel overlooking the Jurassic Coast has been sold for £1.7 million.

The Manor House Hotel at West Bexington has been purchased by pub group RedCat Inns.

Commercial real estate specialists Colliers, which handled the sale, said it was sold 'off of a guide price of £1.7million' although they could not disclose the actual figure.

The Grade-II listed 16th century hotel in West Bexington close to Chesil Beach, part of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, had been owned by David and Alison Allen who purchased it in 2010.

They decided to sell the property, with associated four-bedroom owner’s house, ahead of their retirement.

The couple had extensively upgraded the 13-bedroom stone building during their tenure, which includes a restaurant in the oldest part of the building with stone flagged floors, exposed beams and a feature stone fireplace.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Manor Hotel in this wonderful location overlooking Lyme Bay,” said David Allen. “We would like to thank our dedicated staff, customers and suppliers for their support, and wish RedCat Inns every success in the future.”

The hotel is the latest investment from RedCat Inns which has been expanding its estate this year with a number of purchases.

RedCat is an investment vehicle founded and chaired by Rooney Anand, who ran the Greene King brewer and pub operator from 2005 to 2019.

The Manor House Hotel is said to be in an ideal location for visitors looking to explore the Dorset coast. It is walking distance from Chesil Beach on the Jurassic Coast, and six miles from Bridport.

The cellar bar at the hotel is also popular with local residents as it acts as the village pub. It leads out onto the hotel’s manicured two acres of gardens which can accommodate a 150-person marque for weddings and events.
