A NIGHT of musical entertainment is going ahead to raise funds for a refugee family set to arrive in Bridport.

The Bridport Refugee Support Campaign will be hosting Rock for Refugees, an evening on music, on Saturday, October 30.

The concert will be held at the WI Hall on North Street, Bridport from 7.30pm.

The inspiration behind the event came when local four-piece, the Avalon Sound, approached the campaign group during the lockdown and asked if they could play a fundraiser to support them. The group accepted and said they would arrange an event once regulations allowed for it.

Alex Green, lead singer of the Avalon Sound, said: "We wanted to do something to help with the campaign because the refugee crisis is more serious than ever right now and we all need to pull together.

"Starting a new life after losing everything is so traumatic and if we, as a community, can welcome a family and help them settle in then that's got to be worth getting involved in."

Alongside the Avalon Sound, the night's entertainment will include groovy duo Psychadelephant, Sammy Hurden and Rosie Smith. All four artists have agreed to perform for free in a show of support for the campaign.

A bar has been arranged for the evening to accompany the music and the group will be giving further news on how the campaign is going.

Mr Lovejoy said: "The arrival of the family is getting closer and we are so grateful to all our supporters, we hope to see lots of them at the event and we will be able to tell them the latest news.”
