AN INTERNATIONAL creative writing competition is urgently looking for volunteers to star as extras for a film project.
A casting call has been put out for people of all ages, including children, who are wanted as extras in a film celebrating The Bridport Prize.
The Bridport Prize launched almost 50 years ago with the aim of funding the newly opened Arts Centre. The writing competition now reaches 82 countries from Australia to Yemen and has played a vital part during the pandemic in keeping the Arts Centre going.
Arts Centre director, Mick Smith, said: “The Bridport Prize will always be rooted in the town and together with filmmaker Justin Owen we want to celebrate local people, their love of Bridport, and books.”
The Bridport Prize said it will be filming people reading books and is asking for anyone who is interested in taking part to bring along their favourite or current book to the Millennium Green in Bridport on Thursday October 7 from 5pm to 7pm.
There will be no speaking parts and organisers have said filming will go ahead if it is raining and is advising anyone who comes to bring an umbrella and where appropriate clothing for the day.
Organisers said that because the film is to help support The Bridport Arts Centre charity, all extras will be unpaid volunteers.
The Bridport Prize offers £20,000 in prizes which can be won across categories including poetry, short story, flash fiction and novel.
