POLICE swooped on an area on Bridport this morning after reports of a woman with a knife.
Officers were called to West Street in Bridport just after 9am this morning following a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman.
It was reported that the woman was in possession of a knife and was threatening to harm herself.
An eyewitness said they saw up to four police cars outside the rear entrance of the Royal Mail sorting office on Rax Lane but was unaware of what was happening.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.09am raising concern for welfare of a woman in the area of West Street in Bridport.
"It was reported that the woman was believed to be in possession of a knife and threatening to harm herself.
"Officers attended and seized the knife. The woman was given appropriate care."
