One person was left trapped in a vehicle after a crash which led to the closure of the A35 in west Dorset last night.

The four-vehicle crash happened at Morcombelake at just after 8pm.

Emergency services attended including firefighters from Charmouth and Bridport stations, ambulance paramedics and the police.

National Highways, which is responsible for the A35, said the road was closed and diversions were in place. It urged drivers to consider alternative routes.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews attended a four vehicle road traffic collision with one person medically trapped. Fire crews ensured the area and all vehicles were safe to enable the ambulance personnel on scene to release the casualty from the vehicle."

The road was back open after about two hours once the scene was cleared.

There was no further information on injuries.

Dorset Police have been contacted for comment.

Bridport Fire Station added later: "If you're involved in or stop to assist at a road traffic collision do you know what to do? For more information follow the link."
