PEDESTRIAN and cyclist routes are being explored to link a 760-home development on the outskirts of Bridport to the town centre.

Bridport Town Council has agreed to commission a report to consider options for walking and cycling connections between the Vearse Farm development - which developers are calling Foundry Lea - and the centre of Bridport. The town council wants to ensure that walking and cycling are the natural choices for journeys to and from the centre of town.

The commission aims to create a spatial and movement analysis centred on western Bridport with a focus on the potential opportunities for improving walking and cycling connections to and from the proposed development and the town.

A draft report has been developed by specialist consultants Streets Reimagined and Highgate Transportation.

The report follows on from the town council's access and movement study, carried out earlier this year and looks to integrate the key ideas identified in the study.

Three options have been presented within the report, one proposing a new link via the Dreadnought Trading Estate on Magdalen Lane, another proposing an alternative link to the centre via Alexandra Road and the third suggesting a connection via Princess Road and the existing foot and cycle path.

The full draft report can be found at www.bridport-tc.gov.uk.

The draft report is being made available for comment from a range of stakeholders and comments can be sent to david.dixon@bridport-tc.gov.uk

The deadline for comments to be made is Monday, September 27.

All comments will be appraised and a final report produced and submitted to the Town Council Planning Committee for approval in October.
