INDIVIDUALS have been recognised by a Bridport-based community group which supports local children with autism.

ASCape gave members the opportunity to nominate people who had gone gone above and beyond their duty of care to help and support families.

Many members were nominated and the feedback was described as 'overwhelming' - there was no clear winner.

Leeann O'Brien, co-leader of the group, said "We want to recognise those professionals that make a huge difference to our families.

"At a time when budgets for SEN services are stretched and services are under increasing demand we know some individuals go further than they are required to support and ease the effects on families living with Autistic Spectrim Condition."

Those nominated received a thank you card designed by one of the younger members of the group.

Karen Wright, co-leader of the group, said: "We hope to repeat the nominations next year. It so important for families to know that there are people stepping up to support them when they need it most"

ASCape supports children and young people aged 7 - 18, and their parents and carers living with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) or are the pathway to a diagnosis. They run outdoors, Covid safe activities for the children and offer support sessions for parents.
