BEAMINSTER Cricket Week produced some memorable and entertaining matches – when the weather allowed.
No play was possible on Monday or Tuesday, however, the senior team had an excellent 40-over game against the touring team Wye Rustics on the Wednesday.
The Rustics hit a competitive total of over 200 which Beaminster looked set to chase down before the spinners took control and the home team fell 20 runs short.
On the Thursday, the under-14s played West Chinnock which proved to be a thrilling contest. After Chinnock set a challenging total of 127 from 18 overs, the Beaminster batters played superbly but could only manage to score 112.
Edward House (17) and Jack Ronan (29) were the star players for the home team.
On Friday, the seniors hosted Mapperton in an entertaining T20. After the home spinners bowled superbly to restrict Mapperton to 98 with Paul Edwards taking three wickets, Chris Park (53) and Ross Baker (26) went on the attack and smashed the ball to all parts as victory was achieved in just six overs.
Beaminster’s County Division One match on Saturday against Marnhull ended in a six-wicket defeat for Baker’s men.
Finally, the week concluded with a fun inter youth club game on the Sunday. An hour’s play was possible before rain came.
