LYME Regis seafront will be the setting for a major two-night dance event.

Landance in Lyme, a dance and poetry event celebrating art and landscape, will be held over Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11.

The event will begin with a dance performance below the Marine Theatre and will move along the seafront towards the Cobb, exploring the effects of climate change on coastal communities such as west Dorset and celebrating this stretch of the Jurassic Coast.

The event will be free to attend but tickets must be booked.

Landance in Lyme will be funded courtesy of a £29,000 grant from Arts Council England's Grants for Arts fund.

Dancers will be performing choreographed pieces which will be enhanced by the performance poetry of Bristol poet Vanessa Kisuule, specifically written for the project. She will perform her poems throughout the dances.

The dancers will interact with the coastal landscape - which is the inspiration for their work.

It has been developed with choreographer Alessandro Marzotto Levy, Vanessa Kisuule, and a number of established and emerging dance artists.

Landance Artistic Director Ella Huhne said "We're so pleased to make this announcement today and to be working closely with the friendly community of Lyme Regis.

"It's immensely satisfying to see young local dancers evolve their skills with established performers to create such special events. We look forward to welcoming everyone this September."

Since 2006 Landance has commissioned professional artists and performers to create dance performances in outstanding landscapes.

Landance performances aim to extend the audience’s experience of art and landscape, enlivening it with the relationship between people and rural environment, providing a lasting memory of place.

Throughout the lead up to the event there will also be an online playful poetry workshop with Dorset Libraries and two sound recording and effects workshops with local music charity B Sharp.
