OUR MP used his column last week to witter on about ‘cancel culture’. The Conservatives use attacking others as a means of diverting attention from their own dire performance.

What issues might he devote future columns to?

In the light of the Hancock affair, he could address the issue of how many chums of the government and donors have gained jobs and contracts since 2019.

These are the real winners out of Covid. How will George Osborne find time to be Chair of the British Museum alongside his many other jobs?

He could consider how the government is going to tackle the crisis in adult social care. This received virtually no mention in the Queen’s Speech and yet leaves many families facing awful circumstances.

He could ask why the government is dragging its feet in starting the enquiry into its handling of the Covid crisis.

As a Brexiteer he might want to comment on the reality of Brexit - the lie that there would be no roaming charges when we left the EU being just the latest one to be exposed.

As someone interested in farming, he might want to comment on the trade deal with Australia. Whatever happened to food miles, Chris? This at a time when food and drink exports to the EU have fallen by £2 billion since Brexit.

If he wanted to challenge pathetic gestures he could question the Education Secretary’s call for school children to sing a patriotic song.

Even better he might question Johnson’s idea for the new Royal Yacht to promote ‘Global Britain’ - the royal family certainly have!

He should be holding the government to account on our behalf not spouting meaningless attacks on something as nebulous as ‘cancel culture’.
