A MAN was airlifted to hospital after he was struck by a car.
The pedestrian – a man aged in his 80s from Bristol – sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The driver of the Fiesta – a woman aged in her 70s from Birmingham – was not physically injured, but was left shaken.
Broad Street was closed between Silver Street and Anning Road while emergency services treated the injured man.
The road remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward following the serious crash.
Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “The Fiesta was leaving the Broad Street short stay car park when the collision occurred. I am aware that this road was really busy at the time and I am sure that someone would have witnessed what happened, but they have not yet come forward. I would urge them to please get in touch to help with our enquiries.
“I would also ask any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to please check their dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4:38pm to reports of a road traffic collision, reportedly involving a car and a pedestrian.
"We have attended with two ambulances, an air ambulance and an operations officer."
An update at 8.30pm from Travel Dorset reads: "A3052 Broad Street both ways closed due to recovery work and accident, a car and a pedestrian involved between Anning Road and B3165 Silver Street.
"The road remains closed since Tuesday afternoon as police await recovery, a air ambulance was in attendance affecting traffic through the centre of Lyme Regis."
