A REPLACEMENT look out post has been agreed at Beach Road, Burton Bradstock for the National Coastwatch team.

The hut, 6.6metres wide, will have a dozen solar panels, in two rows on the roof, and will be fitted with an air conditioning unit and a rainwater harvesting system.

It will look similar to a portacabin although better able to withstand coastal weather. The Coastwatch Institute says it will be lifted into position by crane and could be moved to another location if a better site became available.

Access to the hut will be from either the main beach car park, or the overflow car park to the north of the building.

Other West Dorset planning applications agreed by Dorset Council this week include the retention of touring caravan and tent pitches, a shepherd’s hut and three glamping units at Paddocks Farm, Paddocks Lane, Broadoak; Installation of 20 ground-mounted solar panels in a paddock at Bottle Cottage, Whitecross, Netherbury; A shepherd’s hut for holiday accommodation at 1 Seahill Cottages, Sea Hill lane, Seatown; An anciliiary accommodation building to replace an existing timber building which will be demolished at Pilsdon Manor, Pilsdon.

Dorset Council refused an application for the installation of swimming pool and decking surround at Ellaway Cottage, Wood  Farm, Wood lane, Kittwhistle, Beaminster.
