A MOTORCYCLIST who died in a crash near Winterbourne Abbas has been named.

An inquest has been opened into the death of Stephen Robert Wood, aged 59, at Dorset Coroner's Court, Bournemouth Town Hall.

On May 30, a crash involving a black Harley Davidson motorcycle and a grey Ford Focus on Coombe Road in Winterbourne Steepleton, was reported to police at 7.23pm.

Sadly, the motorcyclist – Mr Wood, from Yeovil – was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The inquest opening said that his death was caused by multiple injuries due to the road traffic collision.

Following his death, Police Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said: “Tragically, the motorcyclist lost his life and my thoughts go out to his family and friends."
