FUNDS have been raised to provide more a greater range of books for Bridport schoolchildren.
Bridport Morrisons' community champion, Keira Tait, has been helping to provide books for Bridport schoolchildren through fundraising at the local supermarket.
Pupils at St Mary's Primary School created some pieces of art to be displayed at a stall at Bridport Morrisons. Ms Tait was able to raise £300 through customer donations and three weeks worth of money from the store's book stall. This money is set to be invested into providing the pupils with more books.
Ms Tait said: "Poor literacy amongst children is a growing problem. Morrisons is playing an active role by introducing Little Libraries giving access to books to all children in all their stores so when St Mary’s school of Bridport approached me about raising money for their library, of course I said yes.
"The children created some fantastic artwork which was made into a display in store and I had the great pleasure to present them with £300. This is an amazing amount for them to be able to invest in books for the pupils."
