THE GROUP behind a project to revitalise a school trail in memory of a little boy who died of cancer met with the school council for the first time since the pandemic began - and work is set to begin in the summer.
The Branden's Trail Project was set up in memory of Branden Wayland who was diagnosed with cancer when he was three-years-old and sadly died two years later.
Next to the classroom where he was taught, is an area with a sign proclaiming ‘Branden’s Trail’.
The project aims to revitalise Branden's memorial, and leave a legacy to other young children with the creation of a Sensory Garden and Therapy Trail.
The organisers of the Branden's Trail Project were able to meet with the Bridport Primary School Council - with pupil representatives from each class were updated about the progress of the project.
Animal totems for the trail, chosen by the school children - a panda, a tiger and a hedgehog - are making their way to Bridport. The priorities for the trail identified by the pupils were a wish well, a maze, stepping stones, seating, shelter, a collection of sensory plants and flowers and fun things to do.
The children also liked the ideas of painting stones to look like ladybirds and bees and painting a mural on the fence backing the Trail.
Local writer Colin Ward would be working with them to produce a book of poems and thoughts, and even offered them a haiku to name.
Work on the site is set to start once the summer holidays begin.
