ECO-CAMPAIGNERS came through Bridport as part of their 300 mile journey to the G7 summit.
Fifteen cyclists from the Bloomin’ Greenwash Travelling Circus stopped off in Bridport on Saturday to highlight the need for the world’s leaders to do more about climate change.
The group is not your traditional circus, but rather a travelling troop cycling more than 300 miles from East Sussex to St Ives ahead of the G7 summit which begins tomorrow (Friday).
The group's aim is to make sure world leaders make good on promises to deal with the climate and ecological emergency.
The cyclists paraded throughout the town with a samba band, through Bucky Doo Square and down South Street, handing out leaflets with an aim of correcting misinformation about action to prevent climate and ecology collapse.
The group shared their message that 'real action' from all nations is essential because we are all in an emergency situation - speaking out against what they believe to be 'greenwash' - empty promises made by the government which fail to materialise.
Bridport Extinction Rebellion activists welcomed the fifteen cyclists with a vegan lunch.
A spokesman for the group said: “The G7, leaders of the world’s richest nations are meeting in Cornwall on June 11 to June 13. The message to them is clear, they must step up their ambitions and make good on their promises to deal with the climate and ecological emergency we are all facing.
“We are drowning in their promises, so the travelling circus is taking to their boat come bicycle to take the message to them.”
