A DOG has been rescued after it became trapped in some plants.
Coastguard officers were called to rescue a dog that was trapped in 'dense gorse' near Cogden Beach at 10.07am yesterday morning.
The dog's owner had been out walking when he fell over and the dog ran off and became stuck in the plants.
A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The owner had been walking his dog on its lead in between the National Trust car park and the beach when he slipped over and the dog, complete with extendable lead, made off to become entangled in the dense gorse.
"Unable to free his dog and the lead which were both out of reach and entangled in the gorse, the owner then called for assistance.
"Officers responded to the station in West Bay to pick up their equipment and rescue vehicle, then headed to meet the dog's owner at Cogden.
"On arrival, the dog's owner led officers to where the dog was trapped. Using hand tools, the undergrowth was sufficiently released, the lead was cut and the dog was freed and returned to its grateful owner.
"A great result all round and the owner did exactly the right thing by calling for assistance when he found himself in difficulty.
"Stay safe on the coast, but If you find yourself in difficulty, or if you see something that gives you cause for concern, do not hesitate, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
