THINGS are looking up for a Bridport trading estate where a major fire broke out two years ago.
It has been a difficult couple of years for Dreadnought Trading Estate on Magdalen Lane.
The estate was purchased by current owners, Crowndale Estate, in April 2019. Just three months later, a fire destroyed one unit at the estate and severely damaged the neighbouring garage. Then in March 2020 the country went into a national lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two years on from the purchase, the estate appears to be bouncing back with a variety of new businesses taking up the units.
Lesley Wilson, the on site representative for the landlord at Dreadnought Trading Estate, said: "I think there was definitely moments within the first couple of years where the owner was thinking 'what have I done?' But he remained optimistic as it had been bought as an investment for his family.
“It's great to see the estate bouncing back from a difficult couple of years and lots of local people making a go of it.
“Lots of units are run by young, local people – all supporting each other and all adding to the marvellous vibe of Bridport."
She added: “I’m bowled over by people have just got their heads done and got on with it. All the units are full and its buzzing round there."
The unit which had been completely destroyed in the fire has been rebuilt and has reopened as military-style gym, the Hurt Locker - as reported in last week's News. The estate is also currently boasting an array of food outlets, adding to Bridport's growing reputation as a 'foodie' town.
All units at the estate are currently occupied and there is a waiting list for those wanting a unit.
