A CHEF from Bridport is opening a pop-up restaurant serving 'hyper-local' food.
'Breathe at Goren' will open under the creative direction of Gideon Hitchin, a Bridport-born chef who has worked in a range of restaurants including as head chef in a hotel in Italy.
Mr Hitchin sold his popular Axminster restaurant The Giant Club in September 2020 and has now taken on a new challenge by launching a pop-up restaurant at Goren Farm near Stockland in east Devon.
Diners will be seated in a converted tractor shed with views over Goren Farm wildflower meadows where they will enjoy a six course menu of dishes all made with ingredients sourced from the local area, as well as drinks from local companies.
A spokesman for Breathe at Goren said: "Under the creative direction of Gideon Hitchin – ex-chef and patron of The Giant Club in Devon, ‘Breathe’ will be a collaborative food project between many of the area’s best loved chefs, producers and hosts.
"Set in beautiful rustic surroundings, the six course menu will be a sophisticated treatment of the best produce from Goren Farm and the immediate locality with much of the cooking done gently over local wood and charcoal.
"The menu will be six courses of hyper-local food which all comes from the surrounding area. Many of the wines and other drinks on the accompanying six course paired drinks menu will also be sourced locally – Devon is home to award winning vineyards, cider makers and brewers including the neighbouring Dalwood Vineyard. Many of the cocktails will incorporate herbs and other products from the farm itself."
Guests will be invited to have a cocktail and a canapé before taking a stroll around a nature trail. They will then be seated and can enjoy a meat or vegan menu with or without a paired drinks menu.
A spokesman said: "Expect to enjoy stunning views across the Corry Valley from the lovingly converted tractor shed in the heart of Goren Farm’s wildflower meadows. A truly perfect place to unwind and revitalise the soul."
The restaurant will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening between June 3 and June 26 and for lunch on Sunday, June 27. For more information and to buy tickets, visit www.giantclub.co.uk or email breathe.goren@yahoo.com
