COMMUNITY groups are raising funds to support plans to develop a new skate park.
Bridport Round Table has teamed up with Bridport Ladies Circle for a sponsored cycle ride to raise money for the new skate park at Plottingham Playing Fields, amongst other for local causes.
Members hope to raise £5,000 and are urging the the community to sponsor them so they can raise their target.
Plans are in place for a revamp of Plottingham Playing Fields - with those behind the plans wanting to provide an area which can be used by 'people of all ages'.
Bridport Town Council is looking at options to revive the area, with plans also including a cycle route and the installation of six solar car ports - to generate electricity - in the Plottingham car park.
The first step is to deliver a new and improved skate park.
A members of the two charitable groups will ride an accumulative 500 miles.
A spokesman for Bridport Round Table said: “We have spent some months hibernating and planning for 2021 and 2022 - with more events coming - but for now we are aiming to ride 500 miles. All the money raised will go to local good causes, including the great idea of the Bridport Skate Park redevelopment and a few requests we have which we are wanting to help.
“The target is £5,000 - so every £10 sponsor pushes us an extra mile.
“We will be attempting this on Saturday, May 22 with our 10-mile route, starting and finishing at Bucky Doo Square throughout the day - you can sponsor and support us there too."
They added: “The response to our Christmas hamper campaign was overwhelming, which shows the fantastic community we have here. Please give generously so we can continue to support those who need it most.”
Whilst the initial focus will be the skate park - the project is planned to expand into the rest of the Plottingham Fields area in the near future.
The longer term plan is to upgrade the whole area. Including solar ports in the car park, cycle routes and an events stage which can be used for all the local groups' fundraising events.
