WITH the end of the ‘stay at home’ rule on 29th March, we are emerging into the recovery phase of the pandemic and into new hope for the future. It is fitting then, that this emergence is reflected by Easter. It represents new life and resurrection, as well as fresh starts and hope – the combination makes for a very optimistic future.
Driving the resurrection of our pre-Covid lives is, of course, the incredible vaccination programme which has meant we have now vaccinated almost 500,000 people in Dorset. This is amazing, and it is thanks to the doctors and nurses and support staff and volunteers in the NHS in Dorset who have all put in their time to make this achievement possible.
I never dreamed I would have to vote on restrictions like those that have been in place over the pandemic – and I pray I never have to do it again. This past year has been unprecedented and yet, as with all crises the British people have gone through before, the people of this country have adapted and made the best of a tough situation.
For me, my Christian faith has been extremely important and being able to once more attend Church in person has been like a replenishment to the soul.
Across the country, Churches will open their doors to parishioners this weekend – some for the first time in a while.
As in the story of Easter, we are waiting for our own nation’s resurrection to follow the example of Easter, and we can look forward and embrace our new opportunities and returned freedoms.
I wish you all a very happy Easter.
