THE BRIDPORT Half Marathon and has been postponed until September as a result of the current lockdown.
The event had been scheduled to go ahead on Sunday, March 28, alongside the 10km event - which has also been cancelled.
Unfortunately for the event's organisers, the races were due to go ahead one day before organised outdoor sport is able to resume from Monday, March 29.
As a result, the event has had to be pushed back until September, with a provisional date of September 26 in place.
A spokesman for the Beyond Events, the organisation behind the event, said: "Following the latest Government announcement on February 22 regarding the gradual unlock after the third national lockdown it was announced that organised outdoor sport can resume from the 29th of March.
"Whilst this is great news moving forward, it is unfortunately a day late for The Bridport Half and 10km.
"After speaking to key stakeholders Beyond Events has decided to postpone the Bridport Half Marathon and 10km until September 26.
They added: "The event had already been postponed on two other separate occasions due to the Covid-19 pandemic but we are committed to keeping the event in this year's scheudle and it will return to its March date in 2022."
The full Bridport Marathon is also scheduled to go ahead on the prospective September 26 date.
In place of the races planned to go ahead later this month, virtual half marathon and 10km events will be taking place on the original date of March 28.
