A PETITION has been launched to keep a medieval manor house open to the public.
The National Trust has recently stopped public visits to Shute Barton, in Axminster, instead choosing to focus on renting out the building full-time as a holiday accommodation.
The petition states that this decision was taken without any consultation or public announcement.
Those behind the petition have also said that the local community is devastated by this decision, claiming that 'an integral part of the town's history will now only be available to a few rich people from the outside'.
Suites at the house, the history of which dates back to before the Wars of the Roses, will reportedly be available for around £2,000 per week.
