AN APPEAL for laptops and tablets for local schools has seen a great response – and now further donations are needed to help teachers.
Bridport Rotary Club issued an appeal last month, asking members of the public to donate any surplus laptops and tablets to pupils who did not have adequate equipment to learn from home.
The community answered the call with a number of items and generous donations of money.
The Minerva Learning Trust schools - the Sir John Colfox Academy, Bridport Primary, Burton Bradstock Primary and St Mary’s Primary now say that they have sufficient laptops for their pupils. Next on the list are portable USB visualisers, needed for the teachers to interact online real time with their pupils.
Visualisers are small mounted cameras that will allow teachers to demonstrate and share resources with students. This can be either in the classroom or when remote learning. These can be used in all areas of the curriculum. The schools say they are in in 'desperate need' of these items.
The rotary club has added to the donations and handed over the sum of £2,500 to enable the purchase of 50 visualisers for schools in the Minerva Learning Trust.
The visualisers will enable teachers to; model the process of writing and demonstrating the thought process, demonstrate techniques, share examples of student work with the class, live marking of work, integrating text and drawing key points, modelling maths equations and more.
If you have any surplus equipment you are able to donate email secretary@bridportrotary.org.uk
