THE number of recorded coronavirus cases in Dorset has increased by almost 350, latest figures show.

Across the county, the number of confirmed new infections rose by 348 over the latest 24 hour period.

The figure for the Dorset Council area increased by 142.

Public Health England figures show that 9,228 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today, Wednesday (January 27), in the Dorset Council area - up from 9,086 the same time on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the number of recorded coronavirus cases in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole increased by 206 over the same time period.

Public Health England figures show that 21,285 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday (January 27) in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, up from 21,079 the same time on Tuesday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 25,308 over the period, to 3,715,054.
