Disneyland Paris has announced its park is reopening but enlisted the help of a west Dorset singer to do so.

Douglas Dare, a musician and songwriter from Bridport, was chosen for the incredible task to sing Snow White’s ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’ in the famous resort’s advert.

To announce that Disneyland Paris would soon be reopening, the park released a video clip with the tagline, ‘there is no magic without you’ with Douglas singing the song over iconic images of the famous palace.

Douglas, who has been signed to record label Erased Tapes since 2014 when he released his first album, had been touring the UK, Europe and America but tour dates were cancelled due to the coronavirus.

In the past he has written music for documentaries, TV and film, and through his publisher was asked to take part.

Douglas said: “I ended up doing quite a lot of versions for them [Disney] and they ended up going for it.

“The thing that is really great about it is that it is pride month and I insisted that if I was going to do it, I would sing the male words. There was a risk then that they could choose someone else, but they decided to go with my vocals, which was great.

“I have had so many great messages from people, parents who have said it means so much to their child to hear a male sing those words and lots of really great things.”

Douglas has always had a passion for music, growing up with his mum as a piano teacher, and studied music at Beaminster School where he met lots of other musicians. He then went on to study at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, founded by Sir Paul McCartney where he started song writing.

Douglas added: “I decided I wanted to move to London, find a record label and a manager and do all those things.

“I haven’t had meteoric success in any sense, but over the years I have had a really nice steady build of things getting bigger and better.

“My latest album is called Milkteeth and lots of that record is peppered with memories of growing up in Dorset, particularly Bridport.”
