Independent shops and businesses are coming together for the Totally locally Fiver Fest this month.
Local businesses in Lyme Regis will be offering a range of deals for £5 from February 15 to 29, including gifts, cards, toys, food and drink, accessories, beauty products and many more.
The town is joining more than 80 high streets in the UK and thousands of Independent shops and businesses to show the importance of supporting high streets and to highlight the importance of independent businesses.
Organiser Belinda Bawden said: “Fiver Fest has generated great enthusiasm in Lyme Regis with over 40 independent businesses expressing an interest in joining.
“Our independent shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and businesses are what makes our town special and unique. We are blessed in Lyme with a diverse mix of independent and national chain stores, so Fiver Fest is a chance to discover, explore, support and celebrate our local, independent traders.”
A map showing the participating shops and cafes will enable residents and visitors to explore what the independent traders have to offer.
Lyme’s One Planet Working Group, Turn Lyme Green and Plastic Free Lyme are supporting community efforts to reduce carbon emissions and embrace more sustainable lifestyles. Supporting local, independent businesses can reduce the need to supermarkets in neighbouring towns and keep more money in the local economy.
Fiver Fest is based around the message that: ‘If every adult in Lyme Regis spent £5 per week in their local shops and businesses, instead of online, at a national chain or at a big supermarket, it would be worth £700,000 going directly into the local economy’.

MORE than 40 independent businesses in Bridport have also signed up to Fiver Fest, which will be offering a range of £5 deals.
Flyers will be available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre and participating shops this week listing all the offers.
The businesses and offers will also be shared and promoted on Instagram and Facebook by @totallylocallybridport.
Shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs are putting on special £5 deals for the duration of the festival in an aim to encourage shoppers back into their local town centres and high streets.
Organisers say it is also an opportunity to thank regular shoppers, as well as showcase Bridport and the ‘wonderful’ shops and businesses, not just on the high street, but on the industrial estates, farms and surrounding villages.
