The times residents can visit Bridport's rubbish and recycling site are changing for the winter.

Household recycling centres (HRCs) across Dorset, including Broomhills, are reverting back to their winter opening hours as of tomorrow.

Residents will be able to visit their local HRC from 10am to 4pm, instead of 9am to 6pm.

Dorset Waste Partnership says the overwhelming majority of items will still be accepted at HRC free of charge.

These include furniture, electricals, wood and timber, metals, clothing, textiles and garden waste.

Glass, paper, plastic, cardboard, newspapers and magazines should be recycled using the Recycle for Dorset kerbside service, however, these materials are accepted at HRCs free of charge.

There are a few materials that you have to pay to dispose, but this is payable on site by all popular payment methods.

The charges go directly toward the running of the sites and maintaining the service.

Although there are no fees for entry to the HRCs, van drivers should check to see if they need to apply for a permit before visiting. This is a quick and simple process online, with an immediate approval in most cases.

Commercial waste is not accepted at Broomhills.

The household recycling centre winter hours will remain in place until Wednesday, April 1 2020, when they will change back to 9am to 6pm daily for the summer period.

If you have items that cannot be reused or recycled at the kerbside, you’re encourage to make use of these free facilities.

It saves the council money that can be spent on essential services and helps protect the environment.

Household recycling centres are open every day, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
