The 80th anniversary of the start of Second World War will be commemorated in town next week.

An exhibition and vigil will be held at St Mary’s Church in Bridport on Tuesday, September 3.

To mark this anniversary, there will be an exhibition from Bridport Heritage Forum showing various aspects of Bridport’s involvement in the Second World War, an audio-visual presentation, reflection space and commemoration book.

A two-minutes silence will be held at 11am, followed by former prime minister Neville Chamberlain’s declaration of war speech to the country will be played out in full at 11.15am, which will also be repeated at 7pm.

Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day between 9.30am and 5pm and 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
