St. John's Church was packed last Wednesday for the thanksgiving service for the life of Geoff Gardener. He was a resident of Harbour House with his wife Sylvia. The congregation, drawn from people for as far away as Sussex and Buckinghamshire, heard the Reverend Pete Stone pay tribute to Geoff's life and his work as a member of Gideons International. More memories were shared afterwards over tea at Harbour House.

On the subject of Harbour House, did anyone spot their residents enjoying a ride on the 1904 car/bike around the Harbour one afternoon last week. If you heard shrieks of laughter that was probably the cause.

Tonight, Thursday, the local Morris Men will perform at Durbeyfield. Why not go along to watch or even join in this ancient rural pastime?

This coming weekend is your last opportunity to experience all the fun of the fair as it closes on Sunday.

The sea mist descended on West Bay around lunch time on Sunday and shrouded the harbour entrance. Just as I arrived outside the Harbour Master's office, the Weymouth all-weather lifeboat appeared out of the mist just like a great Leviathan, a sight for sore eyes. It was accompanied by the crew and inshore lifeboat from Lyme Regis. This was major feature of the RNLI's annual fundraising day. Plenty of other activities were included in their efforts, including a duck race and cream teas in the Salt House. The Bay was very busy throughout the afternoon and a pop-up car park had to be opened at the Britt Valley camp site - well done to those responsible for that.

After the Churches Together in Bridport and District open air service on Harbour Green on Sunday afternoon, former near neighbours in the Bay, both named Penny, renewed their acquaintance over a piano accordion that clearly had seen better days.
