Meet the delighted winners of a beach sculpture contest.

Archie and Josh Wetherall scooped first place in the 2019 Sculpture on the Beach competition.

The event, organised by Bridport Arts Centre and the National Trust, takes place at Burton Bradstock beach each year and sees families, friends, children and adults battle it out to create the perfect masterpiece from pebbles, sand and any materials they can find on the beach.

Unicorns and crabs were amongst the creations made at this year’s event, but it was Archie and Josh - Team Jurassic - who wowed judges most with their dragon.

They were closely followed by two teams who came in joint second - ‘Seahorse Stars’ Millie and Evie Webster with their seahorse and a unicorn created by Darcy Noble.

The runners-up were Daisy Matterface with her turtle and team ‘Moo Moo’ - Rebecca and Katharina Emerson - who created a crab.

Also taking part was ‘LIS’, Lilah Watts, who created an abstract sculpture.

A spokesperson for Bridport Arts Centre said: “The Bridport Arts Centre 2019 Sculpture on the Beach at Hive beach, in conjunction with the National Trust 50 things to do before you’re 11 and three quarters, did not disappoint.

“From dragons to crabs, unicorns to abstract visions, the standard was high again this year.

“The young sculptures with their families beach-combed for natural objects to create spectacular displays.

“One common object happened to be washed-up dried silver whitebait, which was perfect to use for magical beasts.

“The winners and runners-up received a share of the prize money generated by the competition entry fee of £3 per family.”
