A road was closed for more than three hours after a lorry brought down a power cable.
The live electricity cable ended up in the road in North Allington, Bridport, yesterday afternoon.
Police closed the road for safety reasons and a diversion was put in place, taking motorists through St Swithins Road and out of Parsonage Road.
Officers said the two roads were not suitable for the normal traffic that uses North Allington and drivers were advised to avoid the area unless absolutely essential.
Western Power Distribution engineers attended to carry out repairs.
A police spokesman said: “We know from previous experience the disruption this type of incident causes not only to motorists but that of residents affected by the increase volume of traffic when a diversion is put in place.
”[We] would like to thank everyone affected for their patience during the closure which was in place.”
