Find out what it’s like to be a firefighter and enjoy a day of activities.

Bridport Fire Station is opening its doors to the public on Saturday, September 7, with a day that promises something for everyone.

There will be a wide range of activities for the whole family, including learning about the dangers of cooking during a chip pan fire demonstration, as well as a look around the fire station to learn about the equipment and vehicles used.

Children can get their face painted, have a go at the crockery smash and bring along their teddy to send it down the teddy bear zipwire.

Watch manager Nic Courtice, who manages Bridport Fire Station, said: “This is a great way for our local community to find out more about the local fire station.

“We would like as many people as possible to come along for our open day, have a great time and leave with some vital fire and road safety messages. There is even the chance to talk with the crews about what it is like to be an on-call firefighter and sign up to join us.”

Money raised will go towards The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support, advice and information to fire fighters

The team is also hosting a ‘have a go’ recruitment event on October 9 at the station from 7pm to 9.30pm for those interested in becoming an on-call firefighter.

There will be the opportunity to try some of the activities and tasks involved, including putting on breathing apparatus, climbing a ladder and the national firefighter selection test for carrying equipment.

Those interested will be able to take part in exercises based around the recruitment process prior to joining, meet the local crew and discuss what the job involves.

You must be older than 17 and a half to apply.
