Once again, there's plenty to do this weekend across west Dorset!

From tiki cocktails and a barbecue to film and art exhibitions, there's surely something for everyone.

 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 16

  • Let’s get recycling by Fran Quinlan will take place at Burton Bradstock Library from 10am to 12.30pm. Let your imagination run wild and free and create your own unique 2D and 3D objects using a variety of recycled materials. It is suitable for children aged eight and over and costs £8.

 

  • Vanilla Radio will be bringing summer sounds to The Pymore Inn for an evening of funk rock. It’s Pimms O’clock from 5pm and food available from 6pm.

 

  • The team at The Parlour at Bredy Farm, Burton Bradstock will be serving up some street-style food today and tomorrow from 7.30pm, including ribs and a vegetarian option, finished off with a lemon drizzle slice.

 

  • Bridport Pantomime Players present Showtime, a summer variety show for the whole family, at Salway Ash Village Hall from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Carpet World in West Street or by calling 01308 425828 or 422893.

  • As part of the Turner celebrations in Bridport, A Sketch of the West Dorset Coast in Song and Story will take place at the town hall from 7.30pm. Enjoy an evening exploring the coast from Lyme Regis to Bridport Harbour to the time of artist JMW Turner’s visit in the 1800s, featuring Tinker’s Cuss, The Bride Valley Band and Gail McGarva. Tickets cost £8 and are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre.

 

  • British blues band, Junkyard Angels, will be performing at The Ropemakers pub from 9.15pm.

 

  • The George Hall Trio will be joining The Shed at Bredy Farm, Burton Bradstock, from 8.30pm, with food be served from 7.30pm.

 

  • The Stable will welcome Peter Burns from 9pm.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17

  • Bridport Carnival will be making its way through the town this evening, heading off from West Street at 6.45pm. There is also a funfair in West Street car park and live music will follow the procession in South Street.

 

  • ‘40s Food, Fun and Fashion’ returns to Bridport Town Hall from 10am to 2pm with music, dancing, films, toys and a café. There will be the opportunity to learn the Charleston, Lambeth Walk and Jive, as well as watch dancing demonstrations and music from Tinker’s Cuss, Nearly the Andrew Sisters, Nick and John and Peter Burns. Entry is free.

 

  • The West Bay Ladies will be holding a bric-a-brac sale from 10am to 1pm in the Ocean Bathrooms’ car park in St Michael’s Lane. Money raised will go to the Fortuneswell Cancer Chemotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital.

 

  • Vinyl Saturday Record and CD fair returns to Bridport United Church from 10am. Entry costs £1.

 

  • A group of VW enthusiasts, A Loder Dubbers, will be taking over the field by Loders Arms today and tomorrow for a VW themed event, including local bands, a barbecue and refreshments. For more information, search for A Lode of Dubbers on Facebook.

 

  • The Artwey Artists’ Exhibition kicks off today at Strangeways Village Hall in Abbotsbury. Browse original art works, including paintings, textiles, ceramics, glasswork, photography, lino-cut prints, encaustic wax and needle felting. It will be open from 10.30am to 5pm every day until August 26.

 

  • The Bridport Un-sea-n exhibition starts at the arts centre, an exhibition celebrating the sea from Bridport Museum’s collections. It will be open until October 5.

  • A number of crafty activities will be taking place around the town as part of this year’s carnival. From 4pm to 6pm, children can try puppet making at the Lyric Theatre in Barrack Street - which costs £5 per puppet with all materials provided and children must be accompanied by an adult - cupcake decorating at Moore Than Tea in West Street, chocolate decorating at Aleksandras Chocolate Cafe in East Street and get their face painted by Caroline from Smarty Pants at the Chapel in the Garden. Bridport Museum will also be offering rope making and knot tying from 3pm to 4pm.

 

  • A musical entertainment evening of Byrd, Bach, Gilbert and Sullivan and Purcell will be taking place at Loders Church from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 from Bridport Tourist Information centre.

 

  • The Kings Head in Bradpole invite you to an evening with Rockin’ Ronnie from 9pm to late. He will perform classic songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and more.

 

  • Harvey Causley will be returning to The Stable from 9pm to play acoustic covers of pub classics from the 60s to present day.

 

  • The funk and heavy soul four-piece, Psychadelephant, will be performing at The Ropemakers pub from 9.15pm.

 

SUNDAY, AUGUST 18

  • The torchlight procession returns this evening, heading off from Bucky Doo Square at 9pm to West Bay. Torches will be on sale from 6pm in the square and there will be a bonfire and fireworks (weather permitting) at East Beach.

 

  • Enjoy tiki cocktails and a summer barbecue at Groves Nurseries from 12 noon to 3pm. Lloyd from the Dark Bear will be back to share some rum-based cocktails and the chefs at Ivy House will be firing up the barbecue. For more information, visit grovesnurseries.co.uk

 

  • Howlin’ Mat will be performing live at The Ropemakers from 4pm.
