The weekend's storms provided plenty of opportunities for photographers to capture images of the forces of nature at work in the bay. It also gave the local coastguard the chance to show off their new vehicle. It looks extremely smart in its new livery, but we will miss seeing the old, dark blue vehicle on patrol.

The Jurassic Coast half marathon on Sunday seemed to have enough competitors to make it worthwhile. Those who faced the bracing wind certainly enjoyed a challenge. Sadly, I was unable to be there at the start as I had hoped, but there were plenty of tired runners making there way back to join families and friends as I arrived at the church later in the morning, proudly wearing their medals. Well done to everyone who took part in fairly rough conditions.

Next Sunday, August 18, at 4pm on Harbour Green (or in St. John's Church if wet) the first of this year's 'Songs of Praise' will be held. I will be using the theme 'being on holiday' and hope that many people will come and take part. We all wish to recreate ourselves, recharge and renew. So why not come along and do just that. It will assist if you bring something to sit on. These summer services are run under the auspices of Churches Together in Bridport and District.

Later that evening, we welcome the torchlight procession. It generates as much heat as it does light, as I discovered some years ago. There follows a firework display. A note to all pet owners, please keep your animals safe. Sadly, the owners of a dog did not do so at West Bay Day and there was a very distraught animal outside the harbour master's office. Please don't let that be your pet.

Today, August 15, there will be a guided walk starting from West Bay Discovery Centre at 10.30am. That lasts about one and a half hours. A £3 donation to the centre is requested, but you do not need to book in advance. This week's walk will explore the history of Bridport's railway link to West Bay and promises to be full of interesting facts. My wife can remember gravel being transported using the railway. What are your memories?
