Have you ever wondered what it takes to save lives? You can find out what goes on behind the scenes at a fire station.
Bridport Fire Station is opening its doors to the public next weekend, with a day that promises something for everyone.
There will be a wide range of activities to suit the whole family, including learning about the dangers of cooking during a chip pan fire demonstration, as well as a look around the fire station to learn about the equipment and vehicles on station which are used to save lives every day. There will also be face painting, crockery smash and don’t forget to bring your teddy to send down the Teddy Bear zipwire.
All money raised will be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity.
Bridport Fire Station’s watch manager, Nick Courtice, said: “This is a great way for our local community to find out more about the local fire station. We would like as many people as possible to come along to our open day, have a great time and leave with some vital fire and road safety messages. There’s even the chance to talk with the crews about what it is like to be an on-call firefighter and sign up to join us.”
The coastguard is supporting the event and will also attend, hosting demonstrations during the day.
Representatives of The Fire Fighters charity will be on hand with and refreshments provided, to be provided by the vintage FireGround Coffee truck.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The event is trying to push publicity for recruitment. It's a good opportunity for the public to go on and see what's involved at the station.
"It also gives the public the opportunity to see what the service gets up to, which is quite nice."
The open day will take place on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
