A NEW harbourmaster took the helm at West Bay this week.
Yachtmaster James Radcliffe, 29, was appointed by West Dorset District Council after sailing through a selection board interview.
For the past 12 years he has worked as assistant harbourmaster to Tony Preston, who upped anchor a couple of months ago.
Mr Radcliffe said he was delighted with his appointment and thanked the many local people who had supported his decision to go for the job.
He said his main role is to ensure that the harbour remains operational at all times - while dealing with any emergencies that arise.
In addition to being a qualified Yachtmaster Mr Radcliffe is also an advanced powerboat operator.
His new part time assistant will be local man Alex Wickens.
