AN annual May Day fete has been cancelled after only six organisations had agreed to run stalls.
The Lyme Regis May Day Fete, due to take place on Sunday, May 1, has been axed – with organisers believing other events due to take place on the same day has impacted the interest in the annual event.
Andy Brown, chairman of the Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Committee, said: “We are very sorry for those organisations who had been prepared to organise a stall and to the youth organisations who have practised their displays.
“We feel that there are insufficient stalls to make a worthwhile afternoon. Unfortunately this year other events are to be held on the same afternoon have had an impact on those who would have manned the organisations’ stalls.”
The May Day Fete has been a popular event over many years. It was an event where organisations had been able to raise much-needed funds at no cost for themselves.
The committee are in the process of planning Regatta and Carnival Week from August 6 until August 14 and is looking forward to continuing to raise funds for local good causes.
