BURTON BRADSTOCK: Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright read the script and decided joining the cast of children’s adventure film Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? was a ‘no brainer’.
Filming for the adventure is taking place at Freshwater Holiday Park near Bridport, which featured in the first series of award-winning ITV drama Broadchurch.
The cameras are due to finish rolling on location at the end of this week.
Co-director Danny Stack said he was ‘absolutely thrilled’ that Bonnie joined the cast for the final week of production.
Bonnie is an English actress, model, screenwriter, director and producer – best known for playing the role of Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter series.
Speaking in an interview with The News on scene at Freshwater, Bonnie said: “I read the Nelson Nutmeg script and was impressed.
“It’s refreshing to read something entirely for children and I really liked the vision directors Tim and Danny had.
“It’s brilliant having a set like this is in a great location right on the edge of the Dorset coastline with beautiful cliffs and scenery – the film is bound to look much more interesting and off the wall.”
Playing the character of Diane, the shady and secretive new manager of the camp in the story, is a far cry from Bonnie’s most famous role as Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter.
“As an actor it’s been exciting to play a character like Diane who has an evil edge to her and has been different for me,” Bonnie added.
“It’s great for any director to show an actress in a new way and that is something Tim and Danny have achieved with my role in Nelson Nutmeg.”
The adventure focuses on four children on their annual summer holiday who suspect that their holiday park’s mascot is in danger.
The group set out to find the evidence they need to reveal the culprit – also aiming to convince sceptical parents they were right all along.
The film is being co-directed by filmmakers Tim Clague and Danny Stack, with support from fans, local families and businesses.
Bonnie told how she started her acting career at the same age as the young cast in Harry Potter, so it’s been easy for her to relate to what the cast have been going through. She said filming for Nelson Nutmeg felt like a role reversal because she is now the older one in the cast.
“We didn’t know how big or crazy the platform for Harry Potter would become.
“It was a safe environment with lots of people similar to the Nelson Nutmeg set,” Bonnie added.
“Because we were all children we learnt together and the same thing is happening with the young cast of Nelson Nutmeg.
“The kids have been so great and worked so hard. It’s been great to work with them.”
Nelson Nutmeg is due to be released next June. For more information visit nelsonnutmeg.com.
Bonnie spent her last day with the cast yesterday and said that her next film will be on location in the Mojave Desert, California.
