Crewkerne Young Farmers Club is holding its 50th annual ploughing match on Saturday at the Hinton Park Estate, Hinton St George.

There’s a great deal of interest in the special veterans class, which is being held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Crewkerne YFC Ploughing Match and is open to past members of the club who competed in the early ploughing matches in 1962, 1963 or 1964.

Entries are still invited from past members with vintage or veteran tractors and ploughs.

The founding chairman of the Young Farmers’ ploughing match, Tim Frost said: “It would be wonderful to see a large gathering of past members, not only competing on the day but also celebrating the 50th match and supporting the current generation of Young Farmer members.

“The members of the Young Farmers clubs across the country continue to act as ambassadors for agriculture and provide a great role educating and training those aged between 10 and 26 in rural, agricultural and life skills.”

The event will be signposted from the A30 at Roundham and entry to the site and parking are free.

Refreshments are available and there will be examples of ploughing from a large number of tractors, ranging from vintage models to those of today.

A number of teams of horses will also be demonstrating their ploughing skills.
