MORE than 600 people visited 12 eco-homes around the Bridport area at the weekend.
Homeowners opened their doors to visitors to show ways of saving energy.
Some of the houses were new-builds, showing how a house can be designed to stay warm with very little added heating.
John Butler, from Claremont Road, built an extension made of straw bales and showed his extensive research into materials which insulate without requiring much energy to make them.
Other homes contained ideas of retro-fitting insulation.
Overall more than 600 visits were made to the Bridport homes, and feedback suggests that many visitors were inspired to make changes to their own homes, said Sam Wilberforce from Transition Town Bridport, which organised the event.
He said: “Many of the hosts commented that they had learnt much from the visitors too.
“Many of the visitors stayed for over an hour chatting, and everyone was very appreciative.”
Mr Wilberforce and Sally Cooke of Greendor plan to run a similar event next year. TTB plan to run a draft-busters workshop on November 16 in the Chapel in the Garden, East Street.
Interested people in this or other green events should write to admin@transitiontownbridport.co.uk or come to Green Drinks from 8pm today at the Tiger Inn, Barrack Street, Bridport.
