LYME Regis seafront will once again be alive with the sound of music as B Sharp’s team of buskers take centre stage.

Founded in 2007, the children’s charity aims to get young musicians out onto the streets performing and raising money.

This year, musicians and the ‘Play me Piano’ will again be returning to the town as part of this year’s annual ArtsFest on September 21 and 22 with ‘Busking Beside the Seaside’.

Fran Williams, founder of the charity, said the busking was now so popular they had opened the doors to people of all ages who wanted to join in.

She said: “This is one of our favourite annual events.

“Not only is it an important fund raiser for the charity but it also gets the young musicians out onto the streets performing, which is the most important part.

“Musicians of all ages love nothing more than to play their instruments on the streets and the freedom that it gives them, and that was the aim of this charity.”

Last year, more than 100 people played the piano, ranging from professional musicians booked into the programme to passers-by, over the two days.

Organisers are hoping to beat that number this year, but are seeking help.

Pete Wild, B Sharp music leader, said: “We are searching for a ‘grand piano’ for this year’s event. We are approaching professional musicians to see if they can help but if anyone out there has a good ‘grand’ they would be willing to lend us for the weekend, we’ll take very good care of it and will use a professional removals company to move it.

“Last September a lot of interesting people played some lovely pieces, and there were some real surprises too.

“Locals, holidaymakers, the very old, the very young – and every age in between – all had a great time playing in the open air on the seafront.

“I urge anyone who is interested to get in touch and come and play.”

At the festival, the musicians can be found along the seafront and at numerous venues throughout the town.
